常虹（Joe Chang)，1982年毕业于鲁迅美术学院版画系，后留校任教。1988年留学日本多摩美术大学研究生部。在系统的学习了传统绘画和现实主义造型艺术方法后，开始了对自我艺术意识表现的探索。1990年，移居加拿大，后进入加拿大国家电影局（NationalFilm Board of Canada）担任动画编导，独立创作动画短片《二胡》。

2002年回国，创建中国美术学院动画专业，同时也开始了他近二十年的动画及绘画创作。独立创作了《潘天寿》、《春闺梦》、《山村情》、《春江花月夜》、《八音盒》、《祈福》、《我不是天使》等15部艺术动画短片，联合编导并担任总策划人创作了影院动画长片《梦幻列车》。

在国际电影节及动画电影节获奖51项，入选法国昂西国际动画电影节、法国戛纳电影节、日本广岛国际动画电影节、加拿大渥太华国际动画电影节、克罗地亚萨格勒布国际动画电影节、德国斯图加特国际动画电影节等过百项。担任美国非暴力国际电影节，印度海得拉巴国际儿童电影节，法国巴黎第八大学电影节Les Films de la Toile，杭州国际动漫节等节展评委。动画作品选入日本中等学校辅导教材，希腊克里特岛中小学教育辅助视频教材，美国国际儿童网络教学教材Planet Classroom，加拿大中小学多元文化辅导教材，德国斯图加特国际电影节网络动画图书馆等。常虹是VINYL水墨画发明者，常虹的绘画作品和动漫装置作品入选全国美展和北京美术双年展并在日本、加拿大和中国等地举办个人画展，作品被多家艺术机构和个人收藏。艺术家目前为上海视觉艺术学院教授，在上海、杭州和加拿大温哥华生活和工作。

Chang Hong (Joe Chang), graduated from the Printmaking Department of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 1982, and taught in the university afer that. In 1988, he studied at the Graduate School of Tama Art University in Japan. After systematically studying traditional painting and realistic plastic art methods, he began to explore the expression of self-art consciousness. In 1990, he immigrated to Canada, and later joined the National Film Board of Canada as an animation director and independently created the animated short film"Violin".

In 2002, he returned to China to found the animation school of the China Academy of Art, and at the same time he began his nearly 20 years of animation and painting creation life. He independently created 15 artistic animation short films, including "Pan Tianshou", "Madame Zhang's Dream", "The Long Distance call", "The Mandarin Garden", "Music Box", "Prey", "I'm not an Angel", and co-produced and co-directed the animation feature film "Magic Train".

He has won 51 awards at international film festivals and animation film festivals, including the Annecy International Animated Film Festival， Festival De Cannes, International Animation Festival Hiroshima， Canadian Film Institute, World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb, Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film，and more than 100 awards. 

He also has served as a jury member for  Global Nonviolent Film Festival， the International Children's Film Festival in Hyderabad, India, the Les Films de la Toile Film Festival at the 8th University of Paris in France, and tChina International Cartoon & Animation Festival.

Joe's animation films have been selected into Japanese secondary school tutoring textbooks, Greek Crete primary and secondary education auxiliary video textbooks, American international children's online teaching textbook Planet Classroom, Canadian primary and secondary multicultural tutoring textbooks, Germany Stuttgart International Film Festival Online Animation Library, etc. 

Joe Chang is the inventor of VINYL ink painting. His paintings and animation installations have been selected for the National Art Exhibition and Beijing Art Biennale, and he has held personal exhibitions in Japan, Canada and China. His works are collected by many art institutions and individuals. 

The artist is currently a professor at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts and lives and works in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Vancouver, Canada.
